Freediving

A freediving monofin in honey glaze, with two foot pockets trimmed in brass.

I freedive: one breath, down a line.

It’s the quietest thing I do. Freediving is diving on a single breath, often down a vertical line.

This page goes down the same way. Scroll, and the diver follows the line.

  1. 0 m

Surface. One slow breath in, and the noise stays up here.

  2. 5 m

Red is the first color the water takes away. From here down, everything slowly turns blue.

  3. 10 m

The pressure has doubled since the surface. The line is the only thing to watch.

  4. 15 m

Around this depth, a freediver often stops floating up and starts to sink.

  5. 20 m

The pressure is three times what it is at the surface.
