Context
Some children live with pain they cannot easily put into words, especially non-speaking and autistic kids, and adults often misread what they do show.
Noor Masri, an artist, had the idea for Rasma, and we co-founded it: a concept for an app where a child draws their pain and tells small stories about it, so parents and doctors can follow patterns over time.
The final round
In January 2026 our pre-proposal was named one of 13 finalists in UC Berkeley’s Big Ideas Contest, chosen from more than 150. In the final round we worked on the research, the product design and outreach to advisers.
Our mentor advised us to narrow the pilot to children aged 9 to 12 and to involve non-speaking people in the design, not only design for them.
The decision
At the end of March we saw that we could not give Rasma the time it needed before the final deadline. We put it on hold, stepped back from the contest, and told our mentor and the contest team.
Rasma remains a paused concept. No app was released.
